Dez Santana is a 28 year old, New York photographer. Santana being born and raised in New York, it has become his main scenery for photography. He does a wide variety of work varying from weddings to graffiti. . One of Santana biggest inspirations is Jurgen Grobe. Jurgen, a Berlin street photographer inspired Santana to take photos of graffiti.
Santana inspiration to take photographs of graffiti, came from his love for capturing photographs of people expressing themselves for others to see. Santana’s work isn't just one style, he wide range of subjects makes his style of work very unique. Although for my project, I choose to focus of the photos Santana captured of graffiti, Santana focuses on capturing self expression in all of this photographs. Santa explains while walking throughout New York, if someone is wearing something, doing something or looks unique, then it's his instinct to photography them.
I choose Sanatan as my photographer to base my final project off of because I admire his wide variety of work. I closely chose to focus on his photography of graffiti. The main thing I tried to focus on was the angle that I took the photos at. Before looking at Sanatan’s work, I probably would have taken the photos at a more straight on angle, weather than the side angel that Santana captures. While researching Sanatan, his work has increased my interest in night photography, as that is yet another one of Sanatan’s strong suits.
The main similarity between my photographs and Sanatan is the concept. We both focused on graffiti. Although the location were different, the areas that I took my photographs look similar to those of Santan. The backgrounds of some of Sanatana work are more appealing than mine. While at the same time I tried to capture the same color scheme that Santana used, which I feel I did a pretty accurate job doing besides the middle photograph. In Sanatan photographs, he tends to show more of the sky and other surroundings of the subject, unlike in my photographs where I focus more on the subject itself.

This image was taken downtown Ann Arbor. Although I have been to this location many times, this was the first time I had taken the time to actually take a photo of the alley. This alley smells terrible. While taking this photo, it made me realize that I don’t think I would make a very good photographer, because you have to be willing to go to the extreme to get the perfect picture.

I took this photo while downtown Ann Arbor. I had heard people talk about the Ant wall, but I had never seen it before until the day I took this photo. I like how simple the lines were, and that the color was simplistic being in black and white. I also was fascinated by this graffiti, because i liked how the artist made the illusion that the ants were crawling off the wall. It was a good way to grab the audience's attention.

I took this photography of graffiti, while walking downtown Ann Arbor. I was surprised to find this wall, because I wouldn't have expected it in the area of downtown that I was in. The graffiti was on the side of a restaurant. I believe that it was a chinese restaurant. If it was, that would make sense as to why they're an elephant in the mural.
